Cost breakdown: diy kitchen Island built from store bought cabinets
I recently finished up my DIY kitchen island. Here is a quick detailed cost breakdown so you’d have an idea if its in your budget. The base of this island is store bought cabinets from Lowe’s.
Most items were purchased from Lowe’s, Amazon, and the butcher block is from Home Depot. I did my best to write it up as if you didn’t have any of the supplies. For example, I already had the wood filler, caulk, hardboard, some of the trim, and paint from previous projects. I spent around $550 for everything. Nails, screws, and tools are separate, I did not account for them.
36in wide base Cabinet – $189
15in wide base cabinet – $119.98
Butcher Block – $139
Cabinet side panels (used 2) – $29.98 each
Hardboard – $14.98
Fluted Trim (3) – $17 a piece
Other Trim – around $50
2 x 4 (used 2) – $4.98 each
Wood Filler – $8.98
Caulk – $5.78
Wood Shims – $1.78
Emerald Paint from Sherwin Williams (in Iron Ore) – $81.50
Hardware – $45.12
Wheels – $31.99
Grand Total – $809.03
This is the total of the supplies that I purchased, but there are ways to lower the price. You can omit the wheels, maybe order less expensive hardware, and choosing a cheaper trim. It is possible to create the home of your dreams on your own budget.
