Easy Homemade Cheez-Its

Easy homemade recipe of a favorite snack. Everyone loves cheez-its so why not make a healthier version!

To make these homemade cheez-its start by shredding your cheese. I recommend buying a block and not a pre shredded bag. Pre shredded bags of cheese have a flour coating it and it doesn’t bake the same. I use a rotary shredder for the cheese, but you can also use a shredding blade if your food processor has one. Combine the ingredients until its crumbled together. Next and add the cold water one tablespoon at a time until it combines and forms a ball. Put the ball in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

Roll dough thing and then cut with a pastry wheel or a pizza cutter. Use the tip of a skewer to put a hole in the center of each cracker. Sprinkle with coarse salt and bake at 350 for 15 miutes.

Be careful not to over bake. The high fat content makes them go from crispy to over baked fast! Thats it, super easy to make! Enjoy your homemade cheez-its and feel better about eating this snack made with real ingredients!

Homemade Cheez-Its

Ingredients

  • 8 Ounces Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Cup All purpose flour
  • 4 Tbs unsalted butter room temprature, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 tsp Dried ground mustard
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt, plus more for sprinkling
  • 2 Tbs Cold water

Instructions

  • Shred cheese. If possible shred cheese using the shred blade in your food processor. Remove shredding blade and cheese from food processor and replace the blade with the normal blade.
  • Add cheese, flour, butter, ground mustard, and salt and pulse until the mixture crumbles.
  • While pulsing, add one Tbs of water at a time until dough comes together.
  • Remove from food processor, form ball, wrap in plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Roll dough thin, cut into one inch squares. Using a pastry wheel or a pizza cutter works as well. Us the tip of a skewer to poke a hole in the center of each square.
  • Sprinkle with coarse kosher salt
  • Bake for 15 minutes. But watch them carefully. The high fat content makes them to from crispy to over baked fast!
  • Let them cool and enjoy!
