rookie of the year themed first birthday party

Oh boy, that first year goes by fast! Everyone warns you it speeds by and they sure were right. I had a great time planning Maverick’s first birthday party down to every last detail. My husband wanted his nursery to be sports themed and I convinced him otherwise, but there was no convincing him against a baseball birthday party. Rookie of the year just made sense for his first year! So we ran with it. My first stop was Etsy for some inspiration. There’s so many great homemade items on there to make your party unique to you and help narrow down your ideas. The first thing I saw that helped me decide exactly what I was going to do were these sandlot inspired mini flags. I loved the color story, the vintage feel, and the sandlot was a baseball movie! So from there I got to work. I was on the hunt to put together a vintage baseball birthday party.

My tip is to find one thing that inspires you and just run with it. Baseball theme is very basic and what my husband wanted, but vintage cool baseball is what made me excited about it. There’s no such thing as a “perfect” party theme. The reality is that you can make any party theme great, It’s just all in the details! So if your’e looking for a vintage inspired baseball birthday party, keep on reading for some ideas. Etsy is such a great resource and gives you so many great options to personalize the party to you.

I had a friend come over the day before the party to help put together the balloon garland. If it’s your first time doing it, give yourself plenty of time. It took way longer than I had anticipated but it made a huge impact on the space and I’m very happy I did it. For any theme, not just a baseball birthday party, a balloon arch is such a good way to bring in your colors and take up a lot of space. It’s worth getting a balloon pump, like this one. to blow up the balloons. It saved us so much time! I I also found these cookie cutters on etsy as well.

Quick Tip:  I made these the  cookies and dipped the cake pops the weekend before the party and put them in the freezer. I took them out the day of the party and they tasted just the same! I did wait to put the red “seams” on the cake pops until the morning of the party and it worked out great that way.

We had a couple different tables. One for cake, another for dessert and another for “concessions”. The dessert table was my favorite to decorate. I hopped on over to amazon to search for baseball theme treats and found candy such as baby ruthcracker jacks, and big league chew. I also tried to stick to the color story and got other treats such as red dum dumsblue dum dums, and twizzlers. All perfect candies and treats for a baseball birthday party!

To make the “cake pop stand” I took this wooden tool box and cut up styrofoam to fit inside of it (I had saved some from a package I had gotten at some point) and then used the green moss to cover the styrofoam to look like “grass”. Then I just stuck the cake pops into the moss / styrofoam and it helped the pops stand up no issue. I can’t find a link to the wooden tool box that I had used but I found this wooden box on amazon and I think it would work so much better without the handle. I also bought a pack of baseballs to put around and decorate the tables.
