Spooky apothecary bottles for diy halloween decor
Let’s make these DIY spooky apothecary bottles. These are one of my favorite Halloween DIY’s. It’s so easy to do! I got these specific bottles at the Target dollar spot, but you can easily order them on Amazon, or go to your local thrift stores looking for old bottles.
shopping list:
step 1:
First step is to add the gauze using the mod podge. This is going to give it that boiled over potion look! Part of the reason this DIY project is so easy, is because it’s supposed to look messy. The messier it looks the better! We’re going for spooky halloween apothecary bottles after all.
With a paint brush, put the mod podge on the bottle where you want to lay down the gauze so it has something to stick to. There’s no rhyme or reason where to lay it down, I just had mine wrap around the bottle. Put the mod podge on top of the gauze as well. This way the mod podge will harden over the gauze.
step 2
Mix corn starch with the mod podge to make it a thick consistency. Do this to create the drips around the top, and have the drips run down the bottle. You can have it stay at the tip, or drip all the way down the bottle. Get messy with it! After this step you’re going to let everything dry.
step 3
Once the mod podge on the bottles is dry, the next step is so spray paint. Obviously you can do any color, but I think black makes the most sense for Halloween decor. The bottles start to look SO GOOD once they are spray painted. You can start to see the vision of the spooky apothecary bottles once they are painted black.
step 4
Next step is to add the labels. Time to break out that trusty mod podge again. Mod podge is truly the MVP of this DIY project. Lay it on the bottle where you want to put the label. Put the label down and mod podge over top of it.
step 5
The mod podge will dry clear, but to make the label look more “natural”and blend in, I used a paper towel and some black acrylic paint to dab on the edges.
step 6
You’ve made it to the last step! Lastly, I added rub n buff in antique gold. This step probably isn’t necessary, but I love how it looks and how much dimension it added to these spooky halloween apothecary bottles.
Thats a wrap for the spooky halloween apothecary bottles. I think they came out so good! These are probably some of my favorite halloween decor that I have now and I’ll continue to use them year after year.
